The attention of the Mothers’ Union of Nigeria, Anglican Church in Nigeria, has been reacted to the recent blessings accorded to gay marriage by the Church of England Synod, while vehemently rejecting it, the Mothers described it as unholy in all ramifications.

The rejection is sequel to the legislation of the Church of England on Thursday, 9th February, 2023 after a two-day divisive debate during her General Synod, which voted priests to offer blessings of same-sex marriages and civil partnership.
The Church of Nigeria Mothers’ Union, led by Mrs. Angela Eberechukwu Ndukuba, dissociated herself, Mothers Union and Christians from the Anglican church in Nigeria from such a flawed compromise.
The Union in the statement which was signed by the President of Mothers Union and Women’s Guild and Girls’ Guild, Mrs Ndukuba, reinstated their stance and unequivocally stated that, “they unreservedly uphold the biblical principles whereby God ordains one man one woman for marriage which is contained in Matthew 19:4-5.”
“Secondly, that on no account shall they alter or deviate from the cardinal teachings of Jesus Christ on marriage and tenets of the biblical faith of the Anglican Church in particular and the universal Church of God in general,” the Union partly stated.
According to the group, “the current position of the Church of England is antithetical to the fundamental principles of our faith, a clear-cut shift, and colossal avalanche from the old church’s tradition, social norms and values, and hence, should be outrightly abhorred.”
The Mothers’ while urging for intensification of prayer, disclosed that its would not be a party to the decision, stressing that, “persistently pray the Lord of the Church, Jesus Christ our Master to safeguard, unite and restore her flock to the fold in Jesus Name. Amen,” the Union noted.
