The National Directorate of Employment has decried increasing number of unemployment saying that its high.
Disclosing this on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the NDE-Entreprise and Finance Counselling Clinic training, Director-General of the Directorate Abubakar Fikpo, said more tertiary institutions are emerging, however, opportunities are stifled.

Fikpo, who was represented by the State Coordinator Jediel Stephen, said the situation has resulted in the rise in anti-social behaviours, stressing that is the reason for NDE- EFCC geared towards improving solid business management, under the Small Scale Enterprises Department.
Our Correspondent reports that no fewer than 20 beneficiaries are participating in the training to improve their businesses.
The DG said, “My dear brothers and sisters. I am sure you are aware that statistics of unemployment in Nigeria is high. It is also important to note that more universities are emerging which would mean more graduates being churned out of these universities to join the already bloated labour market. This particular situation can only result in frustration and give rise to various anti- social behaviours such as youth restiveness, prostitution, robbery. kidnapping, and other social ills resulting from joblessness.
“Distinguished Participants, let me remind you that the unemployment situation has reached an alarming situation that demands immediate solution. For example, when more than a 100.000 persons apply for just about 2000 vacancies what becomes of those that do not get the job? Therefore, it is obvious that alternatives to white collar jobs would be the way out and this was the thinking of the Federal Government when the National Directorate of Employment was created.”
While urging the participants to endeavour to get the rudiments of the opportunity, Fikpo added that have been drawn from both within and outside the Directorate to give them the best, “The Concept of NDE-EFCC was borne out of the desire to provide opportunity for business persons facing challenges to obtain solutions through experience sharing with other businessmen or through the counselling sessions with established business persons that are part of the facilitators of the training. The clinic seeks to guide them in solid business management,” Fikpo added.
Also speaking, Deputy Director of SSE, NDE Headquarters Abuja, Chikodi Ike, who was represented by Ahmed Sulaiman, of the North-East Zonal office commended the participants for passing through a rigorous selection process.
Ike noted that the training is going on simultaneously across 18 states, with 20 participants stressing that they should maximise the advantages, “I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity and do your utmost to get the best out of this training,” Ike added.
