By Chima Azubuike
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has chided the former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, over his letter for the suspension of collation of results over alleged lack of transparency in the exercise.
Recall that Obasanjo had called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to suspend the process till next Saturday, to conduct fresh election in violence ravaged areas, especially in places where results were not transmitted through Bimodal Voters Accreditation System machines from the polling units.
Yahaya, stated this on Wednesday at his residence said no leader worth the name, should be involved in campaigning for what he described as divisiveness.
According to the governor, Bola Tinubu, the President-elect has the requisite grooming to ensure that people including the opposition is carried along, stressing that divisive calls should be discontinued.
He said, “No leader worth the name in any democratic setting will encourage divisiveness and tendency for people to form cleavages they are hanging in order to achieve political successes. Asiwaju is well groomed, well experienced and very articulate with the experience he has gathered over the years, there is no reason why he won’t make the call and no reason why all reasonable politicians from whatever divide won’t support this because without this it means democracy we want to bring it to square one, no system is perfect, we are not 100 per cent.
“People like Olusegun Obasanjo, and very senior persons should not be made to encourage anything that will cause uproar as a result of elections.”
Speaking on what a Tinubu’s presidency would do to ensure economic recovery of the country, the governor said the former Lagos State Governor has a track record of performance adding, “Going by the trajectory on which Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Lagos, on which he built the success of Lagos.”
On Kolmani oilfield in the state the governor added, “I have no doubt that he has the mission, capacity and the vision for Nigeria is general. He came on my invitation to come and witness so that he can encourage us if he succeeds to be president. I’m 100 per cent sure, infact 1000 per cent sure that Kolmani will be realised, seen to completion and to benefit not only Gombe and Bauchi but the entire country.”
