Gombe United Technical Adviser laments lack of match bonuses
By Chima Azubuike
The Technical Adviser of Gombe United Zubair Aliyu, has lamented lack of bonus by Government and the management of team, saying that it has hampered its performance in the season.
Aliyu, made this disclosure during a post-match conference with journalists, after his team lost 0-1 to Akwa United at Pantami stadium, Gombe State.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that James Ajako scored the goal in the 30th minute.
According to Aliyu, the most joyful thing is that his team is able to sustain the premiership despite all the financial constraint that they have had.
He said, “I haven’t said this before: the team is not motivated, not a single bonus is paid to them. We started the first round picking points on the way. Once players realise they are not getting anything for winning matches, you will start seeing diminishing returns, the performance will start dropping. Along the line, we thank God the team is still in the premiership.”
Explaining further Aliyu added “By motivation, I meant incentives, financial motivation. It did, this is my third season in this club, fourth year but third season because of Corona virus. I can boast that we got not more than three bonuses. Can a team be motivated in such manner? The way we have been hearing about Gombe united was not like this before but all the same, we thank God, our supporters and the government despite the lack of motivation but sustaining the premiership was the most important.”
“My advice is for the government to support the team financially which is most important. Without finance, no football,” Gombe United Gaffer said.
On his part, Technical Adviser of Akwa United Deji Ayeni, lauded his team’s performance, adding that its has been good season.
He said, “I feel okay and excited about it. That is one of the things we are looking for. There’s no implication as it added more value to our points and we leave it that way.
“They are a very good side right from time. We just took advantage of the goal and that was all. It was a good season for every team. No problem at all.”
