NYSC @50: Gombe Corps Members participate in five-km unity walk
Management of the NYSC has carefully packaged week-long activities and programmes aimed at commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Scheme.


Speaking at the flag off of the unity work, in Gombe State, the State Coordinator NYSC Gombe, Mrs Ada Imoni, said the programmes are meant to bring to the fore the achievements of the Scheme over the years.
She said, “The NYSC , established on the 22nd May 1973 , was to foster national unity and integration after the Civil War.”
Mrs Imoni maintained that, the NYSC scheme remains one of the most reputable Institution in Africa, mobilising and equipping young graduates for national development. and equipping them with the with the necessary skills for self-reliance.
She called on the Corps members to give their best, as they participate in the five kilometer unity walk.
“Let us remember to play our role to sustain the relevance of the NYSC beyond it’s golden jubilee for the next generation to benefit from the dreams of the founding fathers,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman Central Planning Committee for the 50th anniversary celebration, Mr Emmanuel Oibe, said the week-long activities and Programmes include; Lectures on the achievements of the Scheme in it’s five decades of existence, Dinner / Award night to recognise and reward outstanding Staff, Corps employer, most NYSC friendly employer and Most NYSC friendly Local Government Area among others.
