Two months pay: NLC, TUC frown at Zamfara Govt’s delay
A joint meeting of Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress on Wednesday frowned at Zamfara Government’s alleged delay in settling two months payment of its members.
In a press statement jointly signed by Comrade Sani Halliru, Chairperson NLC, Zamfara State Council and Comrade Saidu Mudi, Chairman TUC, Zamfara State Council, the trade unions lamented the challenges of workers.
The statement partly read, “Series of issues prevailed and meetings were vigorously held in respect of the above subject matter involving all the stakeholders on the best way it could be handled where the two labour centres, the Nigeria labour congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, strongly condemned and expressed their dismay over the nonchallant attitude of the Zamfara state government to pay salary of its workers for two consecutive months.
“Having patiently waited for the salary to be paid, the two labour centres therefore as a matter of responsibility request the state government to save lives of workers and that of their families who heavily relies on salary and being their legitimate earnings and their statutory rights to with immediate effect pay the salary with a view to alleviating their hardships.”
While vowing not to rest until the salaries are paid, the two labour leaders, sympathised with the plight of workers.
“The NLC/TUC have understood and are concerned about how aggrieved state civil servants are, however, we crave for your indulgence, support and cooperation as we move to fight for your rights, therefore we urge you to be more patient and persevere.
“We vowed not to relent until your salary is paid Inshaa Allah,” the statement added.
