The Police Service Commission has said that over 200 high-ranking personnel of the Nigeria Police Force  will soon retire from service.

The Chairman of the Commission, Solomon Arase stated this in Abuja when he met with officials of the National Examination Council (NECO) and the Public Service Institute of Nigeria.

Arase said that this development has necessitated a need to recruit more hands into the force to meet the expected shortfall.

The PSC Chairman, who acknowledged that the recruitment process of the force has been problematic, sought the collaboration of both institutions in the recruitment of police officers.

This partnership, he said will aid in fixing the gaps in the system in the interest of a viable and efficient policing system in Nigeria.

He added that the Commission will also collaborate with both institutions for short service training for junior officers qualified to be promoted to the Officer cadre.

He maintained that there was a need to urgently address the manpower gap in the Commission, especially at this critical period of nation-building.

In their respective remarks, the heads of the two entourage, Dr. Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria, and Prof. Danlami Wushishi, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, assured of their commitment to partner the PSC in the interest of nation building.
