Governor Seyi Makinde’s profound insights resonate with the very essence of a thriving democratic society, where leaders are selected through a transparent, inclusive, and equitable process. His words serve as a resounding call to action, inspiring a political landscape that embraces fairness, justice, and equity as foundational principles in the election of Senate leadership.
In a recent statement, Governor Makinde emphasised the cruciality of upholding equity and fairness in the appointment of Nigeria’s future leaders. Addressing the issue of religious representation, he acknowledged the current Islamic faith affiliations of the President, Vice President, and the anticipated Senate President. This realisation prompted governors across party lines to unite and collectively support a Christian candidate from the South South region for the presidency.
Governor Makinde made it clear that their stance is not motivated by religious politics but by an unwavering commitment to fairness and justice. The governors firmly stood in favor of a southern presidency, steadfast in their dedication to promoting equitable representation. They reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to upholding fairness, justice, and equity in Nigeria’s political landscape.
This proclamation by Makinde underscores the significance of fostering diversity and inclusivity in leadership positions, recognising the importance of representing different religious beliefs and geographical regions. The united stand of the governors seeks to foster unity, equilibrium, and equal opportunities for all Nigerians, regardless of their religious or regional backgrounds.
Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the Christian community for organising the thanksgiving service saying, “The responsibility entrusted to me extends far beyond the years 2023 to 2027, as our goal is to guide Oyo State towards sustainable development throughout this period and beyond.”
He reassured them, stating, “I am devoted to inclusivity and will strive to ensure active involvement of the people of Oyo State. We have already established a comprehensive roadmap to achieve sustainable development.”
During his sermon, Apostle (Dr) Joshua Akinyemiju, Chairman of CAN in Oyo State, expressed that the purpose of the gathering was to offer gratitude and worship God for the Governor’s victorious electoral triumph.
