Malaysian Lincoln’s varsity to begin academic activities in Gombe
… As the Management Team, Gombe State Government discuss finishing touches
The Lincoln University, Nigeria is set to begin academic activities in the Gombe Campus situated at Kumo Local Government Headquarters.
The University’s management team stated this when they visited the Deputy Governor in his office to discuss finishing touches for the final takeoff of the university.
The Team Leader, Professor Datuk Bibi Florina Abdullah, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the University informed the Deputy Governor that the team is in the state to finalise arrangements on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding in respect of the Gombe Campus of their university.
“We arrived in the state some few days ago. Our visit is with regards to the MoU we entered into with the state government a year ago. Basically we are here to get your support on the commencement of the school,” Abdullah said.
While shading light on the issue during an interaction with the press , the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Murtadho Alao and Chief Operating Officer, Abdulwahab Shehu, said the school is set to resume academic activities next month.
They also said, that the Management is set to meet with the authorities of Nigeria University Commission to sort out issues of accreditation which is the only thing that is needed to be done now.
Receiving the delegation in his office, the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, welcomed them to Gombe State and appreciated their concern to assist in development of education in the state.
He assured them of support towards ensuring the smooth takeoff of the university, calling on them to not hesitate to contact him,should they encounter any problem in shipping their equipment into the country, pledging to assist as a retired Customs Officer.
He said, “Let me welcome you on behalf of the Governor who would have received you but is currently attending a meeting in the federal capital territory.
” We are ever ready to support you towards the take-off of the Lincoln University. I find it difficult to understand the fact that you are coming to help us and still thanking us. We should be the ones thanking you for coming to help us develop education in Gombe.
” As a way of demonstrating our readiness to supporting you, we have spent a huge sum of money to redesign the General Hospital Kumo in preparation for a Teaching Hospital.
” I am aware that you have started shipping equipments into the country. Maybe I should let you know that I am a retired Customs Officer, and ready to assist if you have any problem in shipping the equipment.
” May I also let you know that oil was discovered in our state. You should start thinking of introducing courses on petroleum for students who would want to contribute their own part in the sector.
The team was accompanied into the office by immediate past Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr. Dauda Batari Zambuk.
Recall that the government of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, entered into a public-private partnership with Lincoln University Malaysia to revive academic activities in the university.
The PPP agreement was signed between the Lincoln University of Malaysia and the Gombe State Government in an elaborate ceremony held at the premises of the school.
