NDLEA arrests 141 suspects in Yobe
…… secures 27 convictions in one year

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Yobe state command said 141 suspects of drug trafficking were arrested which comprise 138 males and three females from July 2022 to June 2023 across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The agency also said a total number of 27 convictions were secured with 75 pending cases at various stages of trials, adding that the command remains unrelenting in combating issues associated with illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state.

The State Commander of NDLEA Mr Abdulazeez Ogungboye, stated this while briefing newsmen in Damaturu the state capital of Yobe for the commemoration of the global campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Ogungboye said, “no fewer than 304.5kg of cannabis sativa and 125.5kg of psychotropic substances such as Tramadol, codeine-based cough syrup, and diazepam injections totaling 427.9482kg were seized across the state in the last year.”
He, however, called on the state government to establish a drug treatment and rehabilitation centre in the state for the medical care of drug addicts.
