SYNW celebrates Zulu Sofola’s 88th posthumous birthday
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers says its proud to celebrate the 88th posthumous birthday of the esteemed Nwazuluwa Onuekwuke “Zulu” Sofola, the trailblazing Nigerian playwright and dramatist.
Sofola, who was also a distinguished university teacher, holds the honor of being the first published female Nigerian playwright and the first female Professor of Theater Arts in Africa. The celebration aims to honor her remarkable contributions to Nigerian literature and theater, paving the way for future generations of female artists.

The SYNW explained that while no physical event will be organised in light of the current circumstances, the celebration of Zulu Sofola’s 88th posthumous birthday serves as a reminder of her enduring impact, stressing that It is an opportunity for the literary community and the public at large to reflect upon her achievements, her dedication to the arts, and the progress she spearheaded for women in Nigerian theater.
