Open Letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Dear President Tinubu,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits as you lead our great nation forward. As a concerned citizen, I feel compelled to bring to your notice a pressing matter that requires your immediate attention – the tightening of security across all borders of our beloved Nigeria.
Recent events have unfolded in Afghanistan with the withdrawal of United States forces, resulting in the rise of the Taliban and the unfortunate abandonment of vast quantities of arms and ammunition. Reports have emerged suggesting that the Taliban, keen on capitalising on this newfound weaponry, may engage in the sale of these arms to fund their activities. This development, if left unattended to, has the potential to heighten regional insecurity and pose a significant threat to our nation.
Given Nigeria’s strategic geo-political position, it is crucial that urgent steps are taken to fortify our borders and prevent the illegal importation of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan. I kindly urge you to immediately direct your military chiefs, police, customs, and immigration service to tighten security measures across all entry points into our nation. This should be done with utmost urgency and efficiency to prevent any possibility of these arms falling into the wrong hands or destabilizing our nation’s security architecture.
Furthermore, I implore you to mobilize intelligence agencies and collaborate with international partners to gather timely and accurate information regarding any potential arms smuggling activities. By leveraging intelligence-sharing platforms, we can stay ahead of these emerging threats and swiftly address any attempts to subvert our national security interests.
In light of the ongoing fight against insurgency and other security challenges within Nigeria, it is imperative that we do not allow any further escalation in weapon supply. Our armed forces have made commendable progress in tackling insecurity, and it is crucial that we bolster their efforts by ensuring that those who do not mean well for our country cannot obtain additional weaponry to threaten the peace and stability of our nation.
I have faith in your leadership and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of Nigerians. Your decisive action in tightening security across our borders would undoubtedly send a strong message to those seeking to exploit the situation in Afghanistan. I believe that with your guidance, our nation will be well-equipped to address these emerging threats effectively.
Once again, I extend my gratitude and admiration for your tireless efforts to steer Nigeria towards progress. May you continue to lead with wisdom and insight.
Yours in struggle,
Wale Adeniran
