Gombe Gidan gala – GomSACA, NSCDC decry six positive cases from 48 suspects
Out of 48 suspects arrested by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in local night clubs, commonly referred to as ‘Gidan gala’, six have tested positive to HIV/AIDS.

Our correspondent reports that following the ban on such local night clubs, by the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the NSCDC clamped down on violators of the order, having arrested the suspects invited the services of Gombe State Agency for Control of HIV/AIDS.
Confirming their statuses, on Wednesday Community Mobilisation Officer Mahmoud Aliyu, said out of six cases discovered three are new and the others are currently on drugs.
According to Aliyu, the state is one of the 19 states in the country that reached epidemic control status, stressing that the state’s rating maybe in jeopardy if their activities are not checked.
He lamented the consequences, disclosing that the state may lose it status due to their activities.
Aliyu said, “Gombe is one of the 19 states that have attained HIV epidemic control. The NSCDC invited us to carry out test on 48 persons we realised three are known cases that means they are on drugs, while three are active cases. These new cases we will place them on treatment; having these in our populace will increase risk. We don’t want to lose the epidemic control status.”

On his part, State Commandant Muhammad Mu’azu, who was represented by the Public Relations Officer SC Buhari Sa’ad, adding that additional 12 new suspects have been arrested for same offence.
He decried the change of tactics by operators of such local night clubs, adding “they were arrested within the metropolis around sabonline, Anguwa ukwu they are now relocating from Gidan gala to local night clubs, the command is equally shifting its attention there.”
