The Gombe State Revenue Recovery Tribunal being Chaired by Barrister Muhammad Tukur Jungudo, has admonished business owners to ensure prompt payment of taxes to avoid litigation.
The Secretary of the Tribunal Barrister Hannatu Dauda Simon, who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Tribunal resumed sitting Thursday, said payment of tax is a civic obligation of patriotic citizens as government need such money’s to provide basic amenities for the good of the people.
Simon explained that the Revenue Recovery Tribunal was not established by the tate Government to witch-hunt business interests but rather to remind and encourage business enterprises fulfill their constitutional obligations of contributing to nation building.
She said the Tribunal in some cases encourage out of court settlement between the State Revenue Service and the defaulter through mutual consent of both parties.
The Tribunal Secretary however, commended those who heeded the tribunal’s counsel to redeem their tax obligations promptly thereby improving the revenue base of the State Government and it’s quest to make life better for the populace.

Commenting on today’s sitting Simon said six cases were listed and five were heard involving travel company, pharmacy and sundry medical facilities.
Also commenting on the tribunal’s sitting the Legal Counsel to the State Revenue Service, Barrister Ndaye Garba, acknowledged that proceedings have been cordial and peaceful.

He however, encouraged business owners to promptly pay their taxes, adding that it is not government’s desire to force people through the court processes to pay taxes but rather to encourage them to do the needful.
