Nigerian Bar Association Gombe State branch on Thursday inaugurated a seven-member committee to investigate the allegation of assault by its chairman Benjamin Sati, against an Inspector of Police identified as Kabiru Ibrahim, deployed to Access Bank.

Recall that on Wednesday Sati, while at the bank in an attempt to carry out his transaction had alleged how Ibrahim, called him stupid, ‘miskini’ (person with disability) in Hausa, over his parking which he said was approved by the bank’s security operative.
Announcing the resolution of the branch after its emergency congress, the Secretary Abdumutalib Babawuro, said the committee has one week to round off its terms of reference and submit recommendations.
He disclosed that the committee has eminent personalities expected to do justice to the matter.

He said, “We are just coming out from an emergency meeting and the Congress has unanimously resolved that we should constitute a committee. A committee of seven members to go and look into the matter and come back to the members in our next meeting.

“The committee is constituted of respected members of the bar who will do justice to the matter.”
While stating the branch’s expectations, the General Secretary harped the need for members to reciprocate the confidence reposed in the committee in ensuring that justice is done.
“We expect them as well respected and senior members of the bar to go and engage all stakeholders and report back to the the house. We gave them seven days as agreed by the congress,” he added.
Earlier, in a telephone interview with correspondent Commissioner of Police Oqua Etim, expressed displeasure over Sati’s claims, saying that he was a bank customer, so needed to allow the issues to be dealt with there without involving the media.
“He (Sati) went to the bank as a customer and not as an NBA chairman as such he should have obeyed the instruction of the officers on the ground.
“If there is a problem between an employee in the bank and a customer, who do you report to? The manager? How does press come into it?”
