Gombe to pay State, LG workers N10,000 as palliative
…… clarifies that this is palliative and not an addition to minimum wage
The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Jatau, on Friday announced the disbursement of N10,000 to state and local government workers as fuel subsidy removal palliative.
Addressing journalists at his office conference room, Jatau explained that the N10,000 palliatives has no termination timeframe, noting that it dates back to August, 2023.
Recall that the state had distributed palliatives to less privileged households across the 2,988 polling units in the state where 10,000 households benefitted in order to cushion the effects of the economic hardship people are passing through.
He said, “Today, I am here to say that the administration has noted the contributions of the workers in the state as the engine room of
administration and implementation of Government policies. We have also noted with sympathy the difficulties they are passing through as a result of the economic meltdown and therefore decided to bring interventions by way of payment of N10,000 each on monthly basis effective from the month of August, 2023.
“This shall include all workers in the state and Local Government payrolls. However, all Local Government Councils are mandated to key into the GOHEALTH programme by ensuring the enrollment of their staff in order to ease their health problems as way of mitigating the hardship emanating from the current economic realities.”
Jatau added that there is a clear difference between minimum wage increase and palliative adding, “this is not an addition to minimum wage; this is just palliative.”
While assuring workers of the needed support, the government urged for support to deliver the needed development
“Let me assure the workers in the state that our administration is committed to their welfare and ready to ensure provision of conducive atmosphere for them to contribute their own part to the development of the state and the nation. I urge them to reciprocate this gesture by to the rules and regulations of the service and be supportive to the policies and programmes of the government.
“May I use this medium to call on all the residents of Gombe state especially those who are yet to benefit from the palliatives to be patient as we shall continue to consider bringing more interventions in the nearest future within available resources,” Jatau added.
