Mohammed hails MD National Theatre, Professor Enessi Ododo @ 61
Hajia Farida Mohammed, the outgoing Vice President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, has extended her congratulations to Professor Sunday Enessi Ododo on his 61st birthday on Saturday.
In a press statement released by her campaign Director General, Mr Biola Tasleem Layonu, the professor and theatre luminary, Prof Ododo, is celebrated for his significant contributions to the field of Performance Aesthetics, Theatre Practice, and Theatre Technology.
Ododo, the current General Manager/CEO of the National Theatre, is renowned for his groundbreaking work as the proponent of the ‘Facekuerade Theory’
Our correspondent reports that this innovative theory stems from the maskless transformational practices of traditional Ebira masquerade (eku), showcasing his deep understanding of cultural heritage and artistic innovation. His scholarly publications, recognized both nationally and internationally, have played a pivotal role in shaping the discourse within the global theatre community.
A former Sub-Dean of Arts at the University of Ilorin, Professor Ododo’s influence has extended far beyond the academic realm. He is a distinguished poet and an award-winning playwright recognized by the Association of Nigerian Authors . His exceptional leadership qualities were evident during his tenure as Vice President of both ANA and the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists. Additionally, he served as the Immediate Past President of SONTA, the national umbrella body for all culture, media, and theatre/performing arts scholars and practitioners in Nigeria.
Furthermore, Prof Ododo’s outstanding achievements have been acknowledged through his fellowship in esteemed institutions such as SONTA and the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL). His rich cultural heritage is rooted in Okene, Kogi State of Nigeria, making him a proud representative of the nation’s diverse and vibrant artistic landscape.
