A Lecturer with the Federal University of Technology Minna in Niger State, has been reportedly killed in her residence.
Our correspondent reports that the deceased was from Department of Biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, FUT identified as Dr. (Mrs) Adefolalu Sherifat.
She was slain in her apartment in the Gbaiko Area of the town.
Eye witness said her corpse was discovered on Sunday morning after her church members traced her to her home when they did not see her during church service.
“We expected her in church and so, when we did not see her we decided to visit her at home. We did not expect to see her dead,” he narrated the tragic ordeal.
The chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of University FUT Minna branch, Professor Gbolahan Bolarin, confirmed the incident.
According to her, Sherifat lifeless body was found in her apartment after members of her church paid her a visit to find out why she was absent from church.
Residents of her Gbaiko’s apartment said they forced the door to her room open before she was found in a pool of her own blood.
“We had to force her room open before we found her in a pool of her blood with her throat slit. Knives were found beside her, supposedly used for the attack. The Police authorities later moved her body to the mortuary,” the resident said.
According to the resident, Sherifat husband who was also a professor in the same school had earlier died.
The residents said the late lecturer was staying with a female house help whom she had laid off the Friday before her death.
When contacted Public Relations Officer of Niger Stste Police Command Wasiu Abiodun, said investigation was ongoing.
