I write to to draw the attention of his Excellency Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, over the increasing rate of unemployment in Adamawa State and the need to empower the youth’s with entrepreneurial skills curb the disturbing issue of unemployment in Adamawa state.
Entrepreneurial skills encompasses a broad range of various skill sets like technical skills, leadership and business management skills and creative thinking. Entrepreneurial skills can be applied to many different job roles and industries, developing your entrepreneurial skills can mean developing several types of skill sets.Entrepreneurship encourages the growth mindset, a belief in one’s own ability to succeed through making and learning from their mistakes. As a result, their abilities are not fixed but malleable through self-effort.
Youth empowerment is necessary for nations development and success.Empowering the youth is important because it gives them the push they need in order to take control of their future.There is a need to equip them with the right tools in order to make better decisions for their future.
Also,the importance of entrepreneurial skills a nation cannot be overemphasized. There is an understanding that the country’s youth hold the power over the future. Shaping them is critical to society’s success.Youth unemployment and lack of youth entrepreneurship development programs does not only cause economic challenges in society but also social problems.Lack of employment leads to increase in social vices and crimes such as armed Robbery,’Shila Boys’ and rape among others.After school most graduates do not get the opportunity to gain job’s in Government or private institutions,some of them have graduated with very good grades from the University but are wallowing in the pains of unemployment which is quite unfair.
Governor Fintiri should introduce more youth empowerment programs that will empower the youth’s to learn different skills for their self-employment,self empowerment and fulfilment such as Baking and catering,Tailoring,Soap and detergent making, Solar installation,Fish farming, Carpentry and furniture making among other’s. Learning this skills will not only empower the youth’s but also improve the economic sector of Adamawa state.
However introducing more youth empowerment programs is not enough,there is a need to empower the youth’s after their training. Most youth’s have completed their trainings but lack adequate resources to start up their businesses or enterprise’s, provision of adequate resources and equipment or tools for the participants of the training will go a long way in starting up the business for them and will solve the challenges of funding.Also, there should be follow up to check on how the trainees are coping with their businesses with sessions from professionals to guide them towards the success of their business.
The government should also do more on creating awareness about the importance of entrepreneurial skills to the youth’s throughout seminar,public lectures and symposiums.
Governor Fintiri had always worked round the clock when it comes to the goodwill of the people of Adamawa State and I believe will also look into this matter soon.
