The State2State activity of the United State Agency International Development has trained 20 officials of Adamawa Internal Revenue Service on taxpayers registration and Standard Operation Procedures.
Speaking at the end of a 4-day training in Yola, Ms Suzanne Myada, State2State’s Public Financial Management (PFM) Specialist, urged the participants to apply the knowledge acquired into practice.
She said that the State2State activity’s aim was to promote accountability, transparency and effectiveness for good governance.
“This training is designed to equip you to implement the policy and manual in order to develop and maintain a robust taxpayer registration database that reduces compliance costs and improves revenue generation in the state,’’ she said.
Dr Chiwuike Uba, a Public Finance Management Consultant and a resource person, tasked the participants to always adhere to standard operation and ensure confidentiality on taxpayers information.
“Protecting taxpayer data is the law because a theft of taxpayer data may also mean a loss of reputation, a loss of revenue, and a loss of confidence and trust in the tax administration.
“Every employee, both professional and administrative staff, shall be educated about security threats and safeguards because everyone has a role to play in protecting taxpayer information,’’ he said.
He further urged them to step down the training to other staff for effective service delivery in the state.
Alhaji Abubakar Bobboi, the Director Taxes, Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service, commended USAID for the training and assured to step down the training to other staff.
He said that with the training and development of technology they embark on rigorous sensitisation and awareness creation for people to know about the new registration policy.
“To be sincere this training is wonderful, we have learned so many new things not only on registration part, on revenue generation generally.
“After this training, definitely there will be improvement in the board on the collection of revenue in the state,’’ he said.
