The Adamawa State Governor, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, on Wednesday, said the clash involving the police and the military in the state left two personnel dead.
He made this disclosure after a security meeting, involving the Police Commissioner and the Brigade Commander 23rd Armoured Brigade in the state said both camps suffered the loss of one personnel each.
Fintiri also blamed the unfortunate incidence which unsettled the peace of the state on overzealousness on part of personnel of the security agencies.
He noted that both side each suffered casualties as one police man and one soldier lost their lives in the clash which also left several other personnel sustaining different degree of injuries.
Fintiri however said received assurances from both parties during the state High Command Strategic Security meeting from both camps never again to be involved in such an embarrassing clash which has drawn wide condemnation and cast the it’s personnel as undisciplined.
Asked about the cause of the clash Fintiri maintained it was the result of overzealousness from men of the security agencies.
He said, “The two officers, the Commissioner of Police and the Brigade Commander are on top of the situation. Discussions will continue and relationship will continue. Everything will be resolved. Overzealousness of the men of the service particularly not really knowing what happened and then going to take the laws into their hands led to the ugly incident.
“But investigations is still ongoing we assure you that the experience we had yesterday will not repeat itself again I assure you. We have taken note of the men of the security forces that have lost their lives. One Army personnel and a policeman lost their lives.”
The governor assured that following discussions all the issues that led to the clash were extensively discussed and that both parties have agreed to work for the peace and security of the state.
