……..Doma establish dominance
…… Derby thrills Gombe residents
Fans were on Sunday thrilled by the Gombe derby between United Football Club and Doma both home grown teams currently participating in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Our correspondent reports that the game which was played at Pantami township stadium, Gombe, attracted fans from across the 11 Local Government Areas of the state.
Some fans who couldn’t hide their excitement about the clash of state-based Football Clubs, said the 3-0 defeat shows the desperation of recently enlisted Doma United into the NPFL.
Sunday Yakubu said, “It shows that Doma is hungry for relevance. How else can you define the three goals defeat against a team that has been playing in NPFL for years?”
Also speaking, Wilberforce Cynthia, called on both teams to do more exploits, adding “they should head for the laurel. Already for this game I knew one of them would want to show relevance and Doma has succeeded in taking it place.”
Speaking during post-match conference the Gaffer of Doma United Akinade Onigbinde said, “I’m very excited; it’s a good one. Actually, we planned and worked for it and we succeeded. The boys came out and they knew we were done, now we have a 3.3 goals atleast we will move up a little bit on the table.”
On the club’s outstanding matches, “Actually, the boys know what we need. We need to go more up; against Bendel insurance we pray we get good result also, with this gain I have confidence in them. Initially, we missed a lot of goal scoring chances most of them were not converted,” he said.
While commenting on how adequate rest boosted the day’s performance, adding “not playing during the week gave us some rest, we didn’t go to Ibadan with most of the team we went with our second team, some of them were resting at home; we played, trained together and planned the tactics of the game together.”
On the support from fans, the Gaffer said “everyone changed from Gombe United to Doma United we are all one. We are all in Gombe, all is in the name of Gombe everybody gave the teams support and we are very excited about the support.”
