Minister of State Water Resources and Sanitation, Barrister Bello Goronyo, says the Federal Government is committed to harnessing the water resources potentials to eliminate hunger and create wealth.
Goronyo, made this disclosure in Gombe Council Chamber during a courtesy call on Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, as part of activities marking his state working visit.
He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is committed to leveraging on the abundant resources including water to meet his eight point agenda.
He said, “Food security is the number one priority of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and River Basins have alot of benefits we can leverage on. Currently upper Benue is one of the grade A and if it’s adequately utilised by the government to cultivate enough food, create wealth, generate employment it will reduce hunger and provide adequate security because hunger is the number element that push people to insecurity.”
He appealed to the governor to approve land titles to enable development, adding “to deliver by the year 2024 we can distribute them to the farmers so that we can grow,” he added.
Goronyo urged the governor to work towards benefitting with the commercialisation of the Upper River Basins, “Gombe should key into it because there is a lot to benefit some of the portions of the river basins are lying without any activity but if the state government can come in or private individuals can come in through private partnership the land can be developed, employment can be created women can have what to do. All these are within the eight point agenda of Mr President,” he added.

Yahaya, who commended the foresight of the Minister, promised that his administration would tap into the benefits of the Bola Tinubu-led government.
“We will do our best to improve the living conditions of our people. The food security agenda is something we will align with,” the governor added.
