Following the rift between Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and his predecessor Bello Mattawalle, the Chief Imam of Muslim Foundation mosque, GRA Gusau, Sheikh Tukur Sani Jangebe, has voluntarily resigned his leadership position.
Jangebe had once resigned his appointment as Commissioner of Religious Affairs in the administration of former governor Matawale due to alleged none performance of the then government.
In a letter sent to the mosque’s management committee, the Chief Imam said his decision was to ensure safety and security of the mosque and its community.
He however assured his resolve to contribute in the development and success of the mosque and Islamic religion in the state.
The resignation of the Chief Imam was strongly connected to a video clip in which he was seen condemning the state Governor, Dauda Lawal and praising his predecessor and rival, Bello Matawale.
The video clip had gone viral on social media flatforms and had generated mixed reactions and controversy among political elites and religious communities in the state.
Moreover, the issue became more complicated because the mosque which Jangebe led was renovated and largely taken care of by Governor Lawal.
Pundits reasoned that the Chief Imam had no option than to relinquish his position to save his dented image in the state.
