Technical Adviser of Doma United Football Club, Akinade Onigbinde, has expressed optimism that his team would remain on top despite challenges from opposing teams.
Onigbinde made this disclosure at the Pantami township stadium Gombe, during a post-match conference shortly after his team defeated visiting Katsina United Football Club.
Our Correspondent reports that the goals were scored by Bidemi Owoku and Samuel Enefiok in the 2nd minute and 8th minute of the game respectively.
He said, “Congratulations to everyone of us, we thank God for the game. If I can remember our match against Bayelsa United was 2-0, against Gombe United, 3-0, we have been scoring goals, just that suddenly, the games changed. The matches we played with one goal were tough matches. Even this very one is tough. If you watched our match against Enyimba, Plateau United, they were indeed tough. We are working. I talked to the boys from the beginning of the game, get your goals and feel relaxed. We killed the game from the first half.
“It is a great one. We feel like continuing harder to get results and if the results keep coming, we are going to remain on top of the table. Our plan is to remain among the first three by February ending and if we can make it like that, it would be okay for us.”
While lauding the Supporters’ Club for its overwhelming support, Onigbinde said, “Everyone is happy, winning at home, we also go away and pick something which we give us result. Football is all about result. It is not about how good the was, if you play and win, the 3 points is most important.”
On his survival tactics, the Gaffer added “As a coach, you cannot keep using the same player at the same time. There are times certain players will have the fitness that others have and you have to give them the chance to perform and once they perform well enough, we are confident that we have players to fall back to. We try to make changes as this will make it difficult for your opponent to read your game. They played very well. They picked the second half and lost about three goal scoring chances. The officiating was perfect.”
On his part, Bidemi Owoku, who recently tied the knot, lauded the cooperation existing among the team members, adding “I want to give God the glory because without Him, I couldn’t have achieved this. I also thank God for the success of the wedding.”
He disclosed that the knot had relieved him a lot, saying “And I know I have prepared mentally and physically for this game and yes, the three points were ours at the end of the game.”
“I feel happy and great because we as a team, we play in one love and unity which has brought us this far and this love will keep us together from one game to another that at the end of the season, we will know where we belong. At the end, continental ticket is our aim and if God crowns our efforts beyond that, we will also be happy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bala Abubakar, Katsina United coach declined to grant post-match conference.
