Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says the agency rehabilitated over 10,000 drug users in 2023.
Marwa disclosed this during an inspection of the ongoing construction of NDLEA Barack Adamawa Command in Yola.
He said, NDLEA counselling and rehabilitation centres are the least expensive in the country compared with the private owned charges.
According to him, the agency will continue to see the possibility to ameliorate the charges going by the current economic situation.
“Because it is one of our jobs to prevent the use of drugs, that is, drugs demand reduction and that process includes counselling and treatment,” he said.
Marwa pointed out poverty as one of the key determinant of drug abuse in the whole society.
He appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his determination of moving the country out of poverty .
According to him, the war against drug abuse is the responsibility of all stakeholders.
“Media are in the forefront, clerics, community leaders, educators, government, NGOs, traditional institutions, women society.
“And youth groups must all collaborate with security agencies to stamp out drug abuse and trafficking in the country,” he said.
Marwa further commended the contractor for the good job on the project.
He said that the project had reached 95 per cent completion and before the middle of the year, first phase would be launched.
