The Society of Young Nigerian Writers has extended its congratulations to Dr Wale Okediran, Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association, for the triumphant hosting of the World Organisation of Writers Congress. This landmark event, which convened writers from across the globe, took place in Abuja, Nigeria, from 4th to 6th April, 2024.
In a statement released by the president of the Society, Wole Adedoyin, from Ibadan on Monday, the SYNW expressed its admiration for Okediran’s outstanding leadership and organisational prowess in orchestrating such a significant gathering.
Held in the vibrant city of Abuja, the WOW Congress served as a testimony to Okediran’s dedication to fostering international literary dialogue and collaboration. This momentous event brought together writers from across the globe, solidifying its place in history.
Okediran’s track record of promoting literary exchange extends beyond the WOW Congress. Notably, he played a pivotal role in organising the International Writers Conference at the University of Ibadan from June 24 to 26, 2022.
This conference, which attracted luminaries from various fields including writers, academicians, scholars, statesmen, and diplomats, showcased Dr. Okediran’s commitment to creating platforms for intellectual discourse and cultural exchange.
The 2022 Writers Conference facilitated dialogue and networking among writers from over 40 African countries and the African diaspora. Representatives from Ghana, Congo Kinshasa, Togo, Nigeria, and numerous other nations converged in Abuja to celebrate the richness and diversity of global literature.
One of the remarkable aspects of the WOW Congress was its hybrid format, allowing participants to engage both physically and virtually. This innovative approach ensured inclusivity and accessibility, enabling writers from around the world to participate and contribute to the discourse on a global scale.
