Tinubu approves National Health Fellows Programme

President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the creation of the National Health Fellows Programme.

Tinubu’s administration says its committed to significantly enhance existing primary healthcare facilities and build more than 8,800 new centres nationwide as it aims to provide accessible and high-quality healthcare services, alongside introducing new accountability measures.

As a part of this initiative, the National Health Fellows Programme has been authorised by the President, engaging young Nigerian fellows across all 774 local government areas in the country.

The expertly trained individuals will act as diligent representatives to oversee and monitor the progress and effectiveness of Primary Healthcare Centre development. This will be closely scrutinised against all financial to centers nationwide.

The fellowship programme will operate within the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Selected fellows will be hired, compensated, and provided with necessary tools to monitor the effectiveness of Basic Health Care Provision Fund-backed health facilities across the country.
