The Gombe State Executive Council on Monday pegged the price of fertiliser at N22,000 to boost food security in the state.
Disclosing this to journalists shortly after its 39th council meeting, Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, said the amount is over 50 per cent less the amount sold in the open market.
He noted that the subsidy was a sequel to government’s bulk purchase of 2,500 metric tonnes.
Njodi said, “Council approved the purchase of 2,500 metric tonnes of fertiliser to be sold to farmers in Gombe State for this planting season at a highly subsidised rate of 22,000.
“The present market rate is 42,000 flagging off the sales of fertiliser will be made sometimes in the middle of June 2024.”
Speaking further Njodi highlighted other approvals made by the SEC to include the dualisation of Ashaka road to police headquarters along Federal College of Education Technical Gombe, and construction and completion of Lincoln University of Malaysia which is an offshoot of public-private partnership.
“The contract was awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited at the cost of N20.47billion to be completed in 12 months. Council also approved contract for emergency construction of two-span bridge to replace six failed box culvert along Dukku/Dokoro in Dukku Local Government Area.
