Following the creation of Gombe State out the then Bauchi State in 1996, precisely on the 1st day of October by Military regime led by General Sani Abacha of blessed memory, Late Fred K.Tanko as the Chief Information Officer of the then Government House Bauchi, and the most senior who hailed from the new Gombe State was deployed to the state.

He took charge of overseeing the Affairs of the Press Directorate until the appointment of Mr Bitrus Galmaka, as the substantive Chief Press Secretary by the Pioneer Military Administrator of Gombe State, Group Captain Joseph I.Orji.
Galmaka served from 1996-1998.

With changes in the then Military Government, General Abdussalami Abubakar who took over effected changes as some MILADs,were relieved of their appointment, while the likes of Late Colonel Mohammed Inuwa Bawa, the then Ekiti State MILAD was deployed to Gombe State on 29th May 1998.

Col.M.I.Bawa upon assumption of office appointed Mr. Elisha Ingila of blessed memory as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Military Administrator.
Late Ingala served from 1998 -1999.
On May 29th, 1999 came the Civilian administration with late Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu emerging as the first Democratically elected Civilian
Governor of the State.

Abubakar Habu Hashidu appointed Late Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar as the Director of Press Affairs.
He served the state during Hashidu’s four year term in office from 1999- 2003.
In 2003 after Governor Abubakar Habu Hashidu lost his reelection bid to Muhammad Danjuma Goje, a new head of the Press office was appointed, this time with a nomenclature of Senior Special Assistant (SSA,I) Media and Publicity in the person of Muhammad Ahmed Yidikawu.

Ahmed Yidikawu served from 2003-2007.
Governor Muhammad Danjuma Goje after his re-election for a second term into office by the good people of Gombe State, appointed Alhaji Adamu Musa Kumo as a Senior Special Assistant (SSA,I) Media and Publicity.

Musa Kumo was later elevated to the position of a Permanent Secretary Press Affairs in 2010.
At the expiration of Danjuma Goje’s administration in 2011, a third elected Civilian Governor of Gombe State Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo retained Kumo for a period of one year. Overall, Adamu Musa Kumo served from 2007-2012.
In 2012,Late Alhaji Mansur Lawan was appointed by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo as Senior Special Assistant (SSA,I), Mansur Lawan served from 2012 to 2016 when he passed on to his creator.
Late Mansur died in active service and his demise created a vacuum. A vacuum that existed for the remaining three years of Governor Damkwambo’s second tenure 2019.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, coming on board as the fourth democratically elected Governor of Gombe State in 2019, appointed Alhaji Ismaila Uba Missilli as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA,I), Media and Publicity but later elevated him to the position of a Director-General Press Affairs Government House.

Missilli served in the first term of Governor Yahaya from 2019-2023 and was reappointed after Governor Yahaya’s second term reelection victory in 2023 and is serving to date.
