Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Friday applauded corps members for their overwhelming impact on healthcare delivery, education, agriculture and infrastructural sectors in the state.
Yahaya who was represented by Secretary to Government of the State Professor Ibrahim Njodi, made this disclosure during the swearing-in ceremony of batch C stream I corps members at Amada temporary orientation camp, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 1,291 batch C stream I corps members comprising 690 males and 601 females were sworn in by Chief Judge of Gombe State Halima Mohammed, who was represented by Justice Yahaya Abubakar

The governor said, “The selfless services of corps members have in no small measure contributed greatly to the developmental strides in the Health, Education, Agriculture and Infrastructural sectors of the economy. I make bold to say the Scheme remains a veritable instrument of development and it is my ardent hope that you will join in this rewarding journey of nation building.”
Yahaya called on the batch to remain peace, adding that the state will ensure their safety “You should live peacefully with fellow Corps Members despite varying cultural and socio-ethnic backgrounds in order to promote the integrity of our nation as one united and indivisible entity. The future of this country lies in your hands. Therefore, you have a great role to play in shaping our corporate destiny. Do not mortgage this unique opportunity that will give room to your rise to greater heights and a sustainable future.”
He urged the corps members to take seriously skill acquisition, owing to the impact to growth and development, “I am aware that the NYSC Scheme established a skill acquisition program for corps members which commences from the orientation camp, I advise you all to take proper advantage of this program and acquire skills for yourselves. You may not see the benefit immediately but it will become an added advantage for you in the wider world. Note that your degree is hardly enough these days. Therefore, it is vital to have a skill in order to boost your profile,” Yahaya added.
Speaking earlier, National Youth Service Corps state coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, emphasised on the importance of national service.
Nwachuku noted that it promotes the much needed unity and cohesion, “This will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria,” she said.
