Representative Sam Onuigbo, recently attended the Climate Finance Dialogue in Istanbul, Turkey, where he participated in discussions on establishing Green Zones: Economic opportunities in a warming world.
The event took place from November 8-10, 2024.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Onuigbo a former lawmaker, who currently occupies seat in the board of North-East Development Commission representing South-East, was the sponsor of the famous Sam Onuigbo Climate Change Act.
Nigeria is one of the few African countries to have policies and legal framework to drive climate action with a stand alone law.
Our correspondent gathered that Cop 29 presented Nigeria two key opportunities to secure funding to address funding for climate adaptation and mitigation challenges. To leverage on opportunities in green investments that will help position Nigeria for sustainable growth.
According to terse message from Onuigbo, the conference provided a platform for stakeholders to explore economic opportunities in the face of climate change. “I was honoured to be part of this important dialogue, which brought together experts and policymakers to discuss innovative solutions to the challenges posed by climate change,” he said.

Onuigbo noted that the conference was a precursor to the annual Conference of Parties (COP), which he also attended in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22, 2024.
“The COP conference provided an opportunity for world leaders to come together and address the global challenge of climate change,” Onuigbo said. “I was proud to represent Nigeria at this important gathering and to contribute to the discussions on how to address the impacts of climate change.”
