The Federal Government on Tuesday overturned an 18-year standard for admissions in tertiary institutions.
The recently appointed Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed the elimination of the 18-year age requirement for admission to higher education institutions across the nation.
He made this disclosure at his inaugural media briefing in Abuja.

Alausa said, “We will not be going forward with the 18-years admission benchmark. We will go for 16 years and we are going to meet with JAMB and others on that. There will also be exceptions for the gifted students. Eighteen-years is not part of our policy again.’’
The minister emphasised that there will be no change in the federal government’s decision to nullify more than 22,700 degree certificates acquired by Nigerians from certain “fake” universities located in neighboring Togo and Benin Republic.
