Taraba State Government on Wednesday said modalities have been put in place to commence the sells of 10,000
metric tons of grains; 200,000 bags of 50k, at subsidised rate.
Professor Nicholas Nemesan, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, and Chairman Taraba State Grains Procurement Committee, disclosed the development during an inspection visit to some warehouses in Bali and Jalingo Local Government Areas.

The commissioner who spoke through Hon. Savior Nuku, Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs, and Regional Development, explained that the idea was governor Agbu Kefas’ desire to alleviate the harsh effect of fuel subsidy removal on Tarabans.
He disclosed that the procurement committee were already packaging the grains at various wearhouses to be sold to citizens at a cheaper rate.
According to him, government was committed to ensure that the procured grains are of best quality to guarantee the health of the consumers.
“This gesture is part of governor Kefas’ desire to alleviate hardship among citizens that is occasion by the current economic reality.
“Government is determined to procure and sell 10,000 metric tons, (200,000), 50kg bags of grains to citizens at a subsidised price. The procurement is almost 100 per cent completed, and sells will commence across 16 LGAs of the state soon.
“We are conscious of the health of the people. We are going to ensure that all grains procure are of best quality and save,” the commissioner assured.
Meanwhile, the contractor of the project, Mr Siki Daniels, assured that only grains ascertain to be healthy for human consumption will be procure.
Dr Aminu Jauro Hassan, the Jalingo LGA chairman, and ALGON chairman Taraba state, described the initiative as a timely vision to ease the suffering of the people.
The council chairman commended governor Kefas for the decision, and appealed to citizens to remain supportive to the governor’s administration to actualise her transformational drive for Taraba State.
