In a strategic move to bolster inter-agency collaboration and enhance disaster preparedness in Gombe State, Commandant Jibrin Idris of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has paid courtesy visits to four key agencies: the Federal Road Safety Corps, State Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command SC Buhari Saad which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA.

The visits, which took place this week, are part of a broader effort by the NSCDC to reinforce partnerships with agencies involved in emergency response and public safety. Each visit emphasized the importance of synergy, information sharing, and coordinated action in responding to emergencies and preventing disasters, particularly those related to gas explosions and road safety.

At the FRSC Sector Command in Gombe, Commandant Idris was received by Sector Commander CC Samson Kaura, who praised the enduring collaboration between FRSC and NSCDC. “Our joint operations have consistently demonstrated the value of working together, and we are committed to deepening this partnership,” Kaura said.
During subsequent meetings with the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi; the representative of NEMA, Hajiya Ummuna Ahmed; and the representative of NMDPRA State Coordinator, Engr Etamu Oson, Commandant Idris introduced the Gas Explosion Prevention System (GEPS) — a technology-driven framework aimed at minimizing gas explosion incidents across Nigeria.
The GEPS initiative, which is being jointly driven by NSCDC, NMDPRA, NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Control (NFEC), is designed to enhance regulatory oversight and public safety under the Midstream and Downstream Oil and Gas Industry Service Permit (MDOGISP) framework. Commandant Idris described the project as a proactive step to address growing safety concerns in the petroleum sector.
“The GEPS is a forward-thinking initiative that leverages technology to detect, prevent, and respond to gas explosion threats. It represents a shift from reactive to preventive disaster management,” he said.
The heads of the various agencies commended the initiative and lauded Commandant Idris for his leadership in promoting a coordinated approach to disaster risk reduction. They pledged their support and affirmed their agencies’ commitment to working closely with the NSCDC to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The visits ended with photo sessions and renewed pledges of cooperation, signaling a stronger alliance among the agencies in the fight against disaster threats in Gombe State and beyond.
