The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Gombe State Council, on Friday extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah in Gombe State and across Nigeria as they mark the Eid el-Kabir festival.
In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Faruk Mu’azu Gombe, and Secretary, Shuaibu Umar, the NUJ described the annual celebration as a profound reminder of faith, obedience, and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
The Council called on Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the spiritual essence of the festival and embrace acts of kindness, especially towards the less privileged. “Let this celebration be one of compassion, unity, and generosity, as taught by Islam,” the statement read.
The NUJ also emphasised the role of the media in fostering peace and social cohesion, urging journalists to continue upholding ethical standards in their reportage. “This is a time for the media to reaffirm its commitment to truth, balance, and responsibility, particularly during such sensitive periods,” the statement added.
Commending the Gombe State Government for its ongoing efforts to sustain peace, develop infrastructure, and deliver inclusive governance, the Union encouraged the administration to deepen its collaboration with the media to enhance public engagement and accountability.
The Council further called on security agencies to ensure a secure environment for residents during the Sallah celebrations, while urging citizens to be law-abiding and supportive of security efforts.
To its members and fellow media practitioners, the NUJ extended festive greetings, encouraging them to celebrate with moderation and professionalism. “As custodians of public trust, we must continue to inform, educate, and promote values that unite us,” the statement concluded.
