As part of his commitment to supporting education and uplifting underprivileged youth, the Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, has announced a sponsorship package of N500,000 for 10 indigent students at the newly inaugurated Model Remedial Studies Centre in Kaltungo.

The donation, which covers N50,000 per student, was announced during the opening ceremony of the school on Friday, June 27, where Prof. Njodi served as chairman of the event. He was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Modi Shelpidi.
Prof. Njodi expressed concern over the increasing rate of failure in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, particularly among students in underserved communities.
He praised the founder of the remedial centre, Mr Mark Alfinti, for initiating what he described as a timely intervention through Computer-Based Test (CBT) tutorials and subject coaching that aim to boost candidates’ performance in future JAMB exams.
“I am confident that this centre will not only help students master basic computer skills required for CBT exams but also offer guidance in subject combinations and career counseling to improve academic outcomes and informed career choices,” Njodi said.
He also called on public-spirited individuals and corporate organizations to support the initiative by sponsoring more indigent students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds who struggle to meet university entry requirements.
In their separate remarks, representatives of the Member representing Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency, Hon. Obed Paul Shehu, and Nuhu Sada Laumara, commended the establishment of the centre and urged its management to uphold high standards of academic excellence.
The Model Remedial Studies Centre is poised to become a beacon of hope for students in Kaltungo and neighbouring communities who are determined to pursue higher education despite economic challenges.
