The Munga Dosso community of Karim Lamido Local Government Area in Taraba State has decried what they described as government neglect after herdsmen attack that claimed many lives in the area.
The community expressed dismay over the federal, state and local government’s action toward the innocent and helpless people of Munga Dosso after the incident, described it as insensitive, a devaluation for human lives on the part of government.
In a press conference held on Monday in Jalingo, the community call on governor Agbu Kefas to re-enforce the already established Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranching establishment law to end the menace of herdsmen killings in Taraba state.
Mr Robert Bukar, the community secretary while calling for increased security deployment to the area to allow farmers return to their farms, he on behalf of the community call for a thorough investigation into the recent attack in Munga Dosso, to apprehend and punish perpetrators of the inhuman act.
Mr Bukar also denied the claims by the Fulanis that the Munga Dosso community had attacked Fulanis at Wuro Guga in Jen Ardido, the attack on Alhaji Musa Jaoji’s house in Lapai and the killing of Fulani cows, noting that the allegations were to cover-up their inhuman act on the innocent people of Munga Dosso.
“While we expressed dismay over the lack of both federal, state and the local government presence to our community after the herdsmen attack as well as the absence of government representative during the mass burial, we however requests for a Peace and Justice Committee to be set up by Governor Agbu Kefas to thoroughly investigate the recent attack on the Munga Dosso community in Karim Lamido local government by the Fulani herdsmen. We appeal for increased security deployment to the area to allow farmers return to their farms.
“We call on governor Agbu Kefas to reenforce the already established Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranching establishment law to end the menace of herdsmen killings in Taraba.
“Munga Dosso community is known for its peaceful, loving, and accommodating nature. We have a longstanding reputation for peace, prioritising coexistence, and we have never initiated aggression against the Fulanis nor, responded to their unprovoked attacks.
“The Fulani herders have historically had conflicts with nearly every tribe in Taraba State and across Nigeria. Despite past incidents where our farmers were killed, we’ve chosen to pursue peace and continue living alongside with them.
“There have been several Guerilla tactics employed by Fulani herders over the years. This including: The brutal killing of Mr Jonah Taimam on 11th February 1991, while working on his farm, the killing of Mr Francis Daura on 27th May 1997 on his farm, the killing of Mr Boniface Shamaki on 1st June 1997, the attack on Mr Abba Yakubu, Mr Joshua Masaibi on the same day, and the killing of Mr Danfulani Akila on 25th July 2021 on his farm.
“In the recent attack on May 12th, 2025 that claimed the lives of 8 young people of whom some were coming from their farms and the others from school, 12 other victims sustained different degree of injuries in the attack.
“In all these, none of the perpetrators are brought to justice. It’s only in the recent crisis that the Fulanis were arrested with assaulted rifles by the divisional police headquarters in Karim Lamido but were released the next day to go and continue their normal routine attack”. The community alleged.
While calling on both Local, national and international stakeholders to prioritise initiatives that would foster understanding and collaboration among ethnic in the local government, the Munga Dosso community also urged the Fulani community to desist from spreading false and mischievous information against the Munga Dosso people on the social media.
“Despite our community’s patient in pursuit for justice, the Fulani community have resorted to spreading false and mischievous information on the social media, demanding “justice,” against us. We urged them to desist from such action for justice, here and eternity,” the community urged.
