Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Jatau, has welcomed the newly posted Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jibrin Idris, pledging full support for his mission to strengthen security across the state.
During a courtesy visit by the new commandant, the Deputy Governor emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration, urging Idris to work closely with sister security outfits to effectively execute his duties.
He acknowledged that the Commandant may face unreasonable challenges but encouraged him to maintain the outstanding track record he built in previous postings, including Imo State.
Touching on recent security policies, the Deputy Governor defended the controversial restriction on motorcycle use during late hours, highlighting that Gombe had long resisted a complete ban unlike other North Eastern states. This leniency, he explained, made the state a haven for commercial motorcyclists. However, given the rise in insecurity, recent restrictions have become necessary—despite backlash, including legal action from some citizens.
“I believe with the awards you’ve earned and your service in states like Imo, Gombe will offer a conducive environment for you to excel even more,” the Deputy Governor stated.

He encouraged the Commandant to engage with the Gombe State Security and Traffic and Environmental Commission (GoSTEC) and the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs for additional support when needed.
He further noted that crime is not limited to the urban centre but occurs throughout the state, stressing the need for a broad and inclusive security strategy.
Speaking earlier Commandant Jibrin Idris described his visit as strategic, aimed at reaffirming the NSCDC’s readiness to play its part in safeguarding Gombe. He requested the support, prayers, and goodwill of the state government and its people to ensure success in his assignment.
“Courtesy demands that I meet with the leadership of the state, and I am here to assure you of our commitment to the safety and security of Gombe,” Idris said.
He solicited for blessings, prayers, and support to be able to carry out their functions efficiently and successfully in the state.
