…as Gov Inuwa Yahaya praises JIBWIS for value reorientation
The 28th edition of the Gombe State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition, organised by JIBWIS, has opened in Kaltungo Local Government Area of the state.
The competition aims to groom young people in the art of Qur’anic recitation while discouraging them from indulging in behaviors capable of tarnishing their image and destroying their future.



Speaking at the opening ceremony, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, stressed the need to combine Qur’anic education with Western education to guarantee a prosperous future.
Yahaya congratulated the participants for qualifying to compete and urged the judges to be objective in their assessment and fair in the selection of winners.
He also commended JIBWIS for its efforts in value reorientation and encouraged the group to sustain its programs and forums aimed at promoting positive behavioral change.
On the restriction of motorcycle operations in Gombe metropolis between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the Governor explained that the decision was taken to curb crime and criminality, which has become a recurring challenge in the state capital and its environs.
Speaking on the creation of 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), the Governor appealed for understanding from citizens, noting that it would be impractical for every constituency in the state to be designated as an LCDA.
He further called on residents to take special interest in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, describing it as a vital tool for electing credible leadership.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Kaltungo Local Government Area, Iliya Suleiman, expressed delight that the council was hosting the 28th edition of the Qur’anic competition.
He assured that the council would continue to welcome and support gatherings that promote development and value reorientation for the greater good of the people. Dr Suleiman also appealed to religious groups to sustain prayers for the nation’s leaders, praising the role of religious organisations in maintaining peace in the country.
More than 150 participants are expected to compete across various categories. Winners at the state level will qualify to represent Gombe at the zonal and national stages.
At the end of the governor’s address, his representative personally donated N500,000 to support the competition.
The event was attended by Commissioners and other top government functionaries.
