The Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, has described the establishment of the Revenue Recovery Tribunal by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration as a remarkable step toward optimising revenue generation in the state.

According to a statement by the Information Officer in the SSG’s office, Mr Joshua Danmalam, Professor Njodi made this remark when he received the chairman and members of the tribunal, who visited his office to brief him on their activities.

The SGS commended the tribunal members for carrying out their duties with commitment and diligence, noting that some northern states had shown interest in adopting a peer review mechanism for possible replication in their jurisdictions.

He said that while the state awaits the Governor’s assent to the bill establishing the Revenue Tribunal, its managers, led by Barrister Mohammed Tukur Jungudo, should continue to operate within existing laws.
Professor Njodi also used the occasion to commiserate with the chairman and members of the tribunal over the loss of personal and government property during last year’s “End Bad Governance” protest, when their office was vandalized.
Earlier, tribunal chairman Barrister Mohammed Tukur Jungudo, said Governor Yahaya’s foresight in establishing the body had not only strengthened revenue generation but also restored public confidence in the fairness and effectiveness of the system.
He praised the Governor’s support as the bedrock of the tribunal’s achievements and commended Professor Njodi for his unwavering commitment to its success. Jungudo pledged that the tribunal would continue to deliver diligent and fair service to the state.
“With renewed support, we are confident that the tribunal will achieve even greater heights in the years to come,” he said.
Since its establishment in 2022, the tribunal has handled more than 100 cases, delivered over 50 rulings and judgments, and facilitated amicable settlements between the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) and taxpayers.
