Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday made a dramatic return to the state as he arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, two days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the cessation of the state of emergency in Rivers State and ordered his reinstatement.
Governor Fubara, who had been out of public view during the six-month state of emergency, was received at the airport by a large crowd of supporters, government officials, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who thronged the venue to welcome him back.

Chants of solidarity rented the air as jubilant supporters waved placards with inscriptions such as “Welcome Back Our Governor” and “Democracy Has Triumphed in Rivers.”
The governor’s arrival marks his official return to duty following weeks of political tension and uncertainty in the state. His reinstatement by President Tinubu on Wednesday was widely celebrated across Rivers, with many residents describing it as a restoration of constitutional order.
Security was visibly beefed up at the airport, with personnel of the police, army, and DSS stationed at strategic points to ensure a peaceful reception.
Governor Fubara is expected to address the people of Rivers State later today at Government House, Port Harcourt, where he will outline his immediate plans as he resumes office.
