Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a former Commissioner, Julius Ishaya-Lepes.
Ishaya-Lepes in January 2023 defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, after resigning from the cabinet.
In a condolence message issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, on Thursday, Governor Yahaya described the late Ishaya-Lepes as “an upright and cerebral personality” who played a key role in the growth of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State.
“He made invaluable contributions, particularly in the build-up to the present administration,” the governor said.
Governor Yahaya recalled that the deceased served as Commissioner for Youth and later as Commissioner for Information and Culture, where he distinguished himself with dedication and insight.

“During his service in the State Executive Council, he stood out with commitment and meaningful contributions,” the governor added.
He described the death as a huge loss not only to the deceased’s family and Kaltungo Local Government Area but also to the entire state.
“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, associates, and the entire people of Kalorgu community in Kaltungo chiefdom,” Yahaya said.
The governor prayed for the repose of the late commissioner’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
