Bold Girls NG has intensified its drive against bullying in Gombe State with a two-day sensitisation campaign aimed at promoting empathy, inclusiveness, and respectful peer relationships among students.

The outreach, conducted on November 13 and 14, 2025, simultaneously engaged learners at Hassan Central Junior Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School Orji, and Government Girls Mega College, Doma.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that during the sessions, the Bold Girls NG team adopted interactive and learner-friendly methods to help students understand the many faces of bullying. Beyond physical intimidation, facilitators drew attention to the subtler but damaging forms such as online harassment, whisper campaigns, and deliberate exclusion.
Participants were also encouraged to recognise the influence of bystanders—highlighting how peers who choose to intervene or report incidents can play a decisive role in curbing bullying. The training further promoted positive peer relationships, urging students to view their classmates as future collaborators and support systems.
Founder of Bold Girls NG, Safiya Abubakar Ibrahim, underscored the organisation’s commitment to addressing bullying at its roots.
“Bullying leaves long-term scars. At Bold Girls NG, we are committed to nurturing a generation that understands these dangers and actively prevents them,” she said, adding that the organisation’s wider mission is to equip young girls with confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of purpose through mentorship, capacity-building, and advocacy.
The initiative was supported by Barr. Sani AA Haruna, Chairman of Gombe Local Government, and implemented in partnership with the Gombe State Ministry of Education. A highlight of the programme was the decoration of eight students as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors across the three schools. These students will champion safe spaces and help promote zero-tolerance for bullying within their institutions.
One of the newly decorated ambassadors from Hassan Central Junior Secondary School, Khadija Haruna Sulaiman, expressed her renewed awareness.
“I now understand the different types of bullying and how they can affect us in the long run. As an ambassador, I will help ensure bullying is stopped in our school,” she said.
At Government Girls Mega College, Precious Tarkuna noted how the programme reshaped their understanding of common behaviours in the boarding house.
“We sometimes experience bullying during non-teaching hours without recognising it for what it is. This training has opened our eyes, and I feel honoured to serve as an Anti-Bullying Ambassador for GGC Doma,” she stated.
To maintain momentum, Bold Girls NG provided each school with awareness posters, reporting logbooks, and additional resource materials to strengthen documentation, reporting, and timely response to bullying cases.
School authorities commended the initiative, noting that it has broadened both staff and students’ perspectives on the long-term impact of bullying and equipped them with practical strategies for sustaining a safer learning environment.
