The swearing-in, which took place inside the Council Chamber, drew several high-profile dignitaries, underlining the importance of the appointment at a time Nigeria continues to confront complex security challenges.

Joining the President at the ceremony were retired Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs of the Supreme Court; Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Mrs. Lillian Oghogho Musa, wife of the new minister; the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

President Tinubu charged General Musa to bring his decades of military experience, strategic insight and patriotic commitment to bear in his new role, stressing that the nation expects improved coordination across the security architecture.

“This is a critical assignment requiring courage, discipline and focus. You must work closely with all service chiefs to consolidate ongoing reforms and restore peace across every region,” the President said.

General Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, replaces the outgoing minister as part of Tinubu’s security restructuring aimed at strengthening defence operations, enhancing inter-agency synergy and advancing the government’s counter-terrorism strategy.

The new minister, known for his frontline experience in the North-East where he commanded counter-insurgency operations, pledged unwavering loyalty to the country and renewed dedication to safeguarding Nigeria.

“I am honoured by the trust reposed in me. I will serve with professionalism and total commitment to protecting our nation and its people,” Musa said after taking the oath of office.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Federal Executive Council and senior government officials, who congratulated the newly sworn-in minister and expressed hope that his appointment would accelerate Nigeria’s march toward lasting peace and stability.
