Renowned Christian minister, Apostle Arome Osayi, has shared a deeply personal account of how the death of his father reshaped his understanding of life, faith and spiritual authority, declaring that intellectual brilliance alone is insufficient in the face of spiritual realities.

Speaking during a recent sermon, Apostle Osayi recounted that his father, whom he described as exceptionally intelligent and academically accomplished, succumbed to illness under circumstances he believes were spiritually orchestrated.
“My father was a good man. He loved God and was highly intellectual,” Osayi said. “His mental prowess was second to none. He earned degrees within Nigeria and outside Nigeria. Yet, in the day of reckoning, all of that knowledge was not enough.”
According to the cleric, he was physically present in the hospital during his father’s final moments and witnessed what he described as helplessness in the face of a spiritual battle.
“I watched my father die helplessly,” he said. “In all his wisdom, he did not have authority against the kingdom of darkness.”
Osayi noted that the experience fundamentally altered the course of his life and priorities, leading him to suspend further academic pursuits in favour of deep spiritual engagement.
“I made up my mind that I would not return to the classroom after my first degree until I found God,” he stated. “My master’s degree would come after I found God, and my doctorate after I understood the ways of God.”
He stressed that while he holds education in high regard, spiritual challenges cannot be solved through intellectual means alone.
“As much as I respect mental capacity, spiritual problems require spiritual solutions, and spiritual battles require spiritual ammunition,” he said.
The cleric further revealed that during his personal spiritual journey, he uncovered what he described as “satanic installations” within his family lineage, despite their outward image as enlightened professionals.
“My family is filled with educated people—doctors and professionals—so you wouldn’t expect anything fetish,” he explained. “But when I pressed deeper into God, my discoveries were heart-shaking and mind-blowing.”
Osayi said his response was to intensify prayer, fasting and commitment to spiritual discipline, particularly praying in tongues for extended periods.
“If you want to go far with God, you must learn how to pray long—really long prayers,” he said.
He explained that sustained prayer, according to his experience, opens prophetic insight and strengthens spiritual communication.
“When you begin to pray for long, the prophetic opens and communication is restored,” Osayi noted. “New Testament theology is built on access to God, and our possibilities are tied to that access.”
Quoting scripture, he added: “The Bible says, ‘Now the Lord is that Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.’ That liberty means access to God.”
In his concluding remarks, Apostle Osayi downplayed the perceived power of Satan, attributing demonic influence largely to persistence rather than superiority.
“Satan is not that powerful; he is just consistent,” he said. “It takes a man of consistent intercession to dislodge demonic installations.”
He warned that spiritual negligence creates room for negative forces to thrive, adding, “Where there is no priesthood, Satan prevails.”
