The Management of the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kowa, Gombe State, under the leadership of the acting Provost, Dr. Umar Umar, in collaboration with the Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Agriculture (ASUCA) has successfully resolved the long-standing internal crisis within the Academic Staff Union of the College.

The reconciliation meeting, held on Thursday, 29th January 2026, brought together College Management, ASUCA National leaders, and academic staff, culminating in a peaceful resolution and renewed unity.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Umar A. Umar emphasized that unions are established to promote workers’ welfare and institutional progress, stressing that dialogue and mutual understanding remain the most effective tools for resolving disputes. He called on academic staff to embrace peace and cooperation for the overall development of the College. He also conveyed the position of the ARCN Executive Secretary, Dr. Babban, who consistently advocates peaceful conflict resolution in academic institutions.

Speaking earlier, the ASUCA National President, Dr. Kadurumba Chuwuemeka, and the National General Secretary, Dr. Sa’idu Paiko, explained that the visit was aimed at fostering unity, ensuring peaceful dialogue, and harmonizing academic staff under a single, recognized union. They highlighted the importance of discipline, respect for institutional rules, and constructive engagement with management.

Academic staff members welcomed the intervention by the College Management, ARCN, and ASUCA National Executive, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to present their concerns. Following extensive deliberations, members unanimously agreed to operate under a single unified academic union, leading to the immediate appointment and swearing-in of new union officials.

The Acting Registrar, Mallam Mohammed Gidado, and the College Librarian, Mallam Balarabe Idi, commended the efforts of all parties and described the outcome as a major step toward lasting peace and stability.

In his remarks, the outgoing ASUCA Chairman, Comrade Nasiru Isa, urged the new leadership to serve with transparency and inclusiveness, while the newly appointed Chairman, Comrade Usman Umar Kunji, pledged loyalty to the union and cooperation with College Management.

The successful resolution of the crisis marks a significant milestone in strengthening harmony, academic productivity, and institutional growth at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kowa.
