The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, has congratulated Professor Umaru A. Pate on the successful completion of his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Chairman of the Council, Faruk Muazu, commended Professor Pate’s leadership and described his time in office as transformative for the institution.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Gombe State Council, I heartily congratulate Professor Umaru A. Pate on the successful completion of his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere,” Muazu said.
He noted that under Professor Pate’s stewardship, the university recorded remarkable progress in infrastructure development, expansion of academic programmes, and improved research output.
“Professor Pate’s leadership, vision, and commitment to academic excellence have left an indelible mark on the university and the broader educational landscape. His tenure positioned the Federal University of Kashere as a growing hub of intellectual advancement in the North-East and beyond,” he stated.
Muazu further praised the former Vice Chancellor for promoting integrity, discipline, and innovation within the university community.
“His administration was defined by inclusivity, transparency, and a relentless pursuit of quality education. These values significantly enhanced the reputation and standing of the institution,” he added.
The NUJ Chairman also highlighted Professor Pate’s longstanding contributions to communication studies and his mentorship of students and professionals across the country.
“Beyond his role as Vice Chancellor, Professor Pate has remained a distinguished scholar and mentor. His contributions to journalism and communication studies in Nigeria are widely acknowledged and continue to inspire a new generation of scholars and media practitioners,” Muazu said.
He also acknowledged the cordial relationship fostered between the university and the media during Pate’s tenure.
“We particularly appreciate his openness to collaboration with the media and his understanding of the critical role journalism plays in nation-building. That synergy strengthened the relationship between academia and the press in Gombe State,” he noted.
While wishing Professor Pate well in his future endeavors, Muazu expressed confidence that his experience would continue to benefit the nation.
“As he moves on to new opportunities, we are confident that his wealth of experience will continue to serve Nigeria in other capacities. His legacy at the Federal University of Kashere will endure as a testament to visionary and purposeful leadership,” he said.
The NUJ Chairman also urged the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru, to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
“We encourage the new Vice Chancellor to emulate Professor Pate’s exemplary service, dedication, and humility. His tenure has shown how focused and principled leadership can transform institutions and uplift communities,” Muazu concluded.
