In a world increasingly defined by innovation, technology, and sustainable development, nations that fail to engage globally risk being left behind. Nigeria’s presence at the 2026 NXT Summit in New Delhi is therefore not just symbolic, it is strategic.

Representing the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, OON (Talban Gombe) and Senator for Gombe North, joined global leaders and policymakers in conversations that are shaping the future of energy, governance, and digital transformation.

The NXT Summit 2026 brought together a diverse mix of decision-makers and innovators to deliberate on critical global priorities, ranging from renewable energy and artificial intelligence (AI) to urban development and sustainability. For Nigeria, a country at the crossroads of economic transition and demographic expansion, such engagements are both timely and necessary.

A central theme of the summit was strengthening cooperation between India and Nigeria. India’s rapid progress in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and public sector innovation presents a compelling model for adaptation. For Nigeria, the opportunity lies not in replication, but in contextualization adapting proven ideas to local realities.

The unveiling of Narendra Modi’s Bharat Progress Report set a forward-looking tone, highlighting the intersection of economic growth, energy security, and environmental sustainability.

Subsequent sessions expanded on these themes, offering insights into how nations can balance innovation with inclusion.

The presence of notable global figures—including Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, host MP Kartikeya Sharma, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Nigeria’s Acting Ambassador to India Ubong, Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Goswami, and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal further underscored the summit’s global significance.

Yet beyond the high-level discussions, the real value of the summit lies in its practical implications for countries like Nigeria. Conversations around electric mobility, for instance, offer a pathway to addressing rising urban challenges from transportation inefficiencies to environmental degradation. As Nigerian cities continue to expand, the adoption of cleaner and more efficient transport systems is no longer optional; it is inevitable.

Equally important are the lessons on AI governance. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in governance, business, and daily life, the need for clear regulatory frameworks cannot be overstated. Nigeria must act proactively to ensure that technological advancement does not outpace policy and institutional readiness.

For the North-East region in particular, these insights carry even greater significance. A region working to consolidate stability and accelerate development stands to benefit immensely from innovation-driven policies. Investments in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and smart urban systems could redefine economic opportunities and improve quality of life.

It is within this broader context that Senator Dankwambo’s participation should be viewed. Beyond representing Nigeria on the global stage, it reflects a deeper commitment to bringing home ideas that can shape policy, influence legislation, and drive meaningful development especially in underserved regions.

However, participation alone is not enough. The true test lies in implementation. Nigeria must move from dialogue to action translating global conversations into concrete policies, measurable outcomes, and visible progress. This requires coordination between government institutions, private sector actors, and development partners.

As the world continues to evolve, the gap between nations that innovate and those that hesitate will only widen. Nigeria’s engagement at the NXT Summit 2026 is a step in the right direction. The challenge and opportunity now lies in ensuring that the knowledge gained does not remain within conference halls, but finds expression in communities across the country.

For Gombe, the North-East, and Nigeria as a whole, the message is clear: the future belongs to those who are prepared to learn, adapt, and lead.
