The Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Nigeria, Mohsen Antit, has paid a courtesy visit to Gombe State University, underscoring renewed efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation through academic and cultural exchange.

The Ambassador—who also represents Tunisia to Ghana, Benin, Sierra Leone, and serves as the country’s representative to ECOWAS—visited the university on March 19, 2026, accompanied by Alhaji Ahmed Shaibu Gara and the Gombe State Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism, Hon. Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Gara formally introduced the envoy to the university’s management, noting that the engagement was aimed at exploring areas of mutual collaboration.
In his remarks, Ambassador Antit expressed delight at visiting the institution and outlined key areas of prospective partnership, including education, agricultural development, research advancement, and cultural exchange programmes designed to promote mutual understanding and institutional growth.
The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sani Ahmed Yauta, alongside the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, the Bursar, Alhaji Shehu Hassan, and other senior officials of the university.
Professor Yauta, in his welcome address, described the visit as a significant milestone in the university’s drive toward internationalisation and academic expansion.
He highlighted the institution’s history, growth trajectory, and achievements, reaffirming its commitment to building global partnerships that enhance teaching, research, and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his administration’s sustained support for the development of the university and its role in advancing the state’s socio-economic progress.
He further appreciated Alhaji Ahmed Shaibu Gara for facilitating international engagements that continue to strengthen the university’s global outlook.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about establishing enduring academic, cultural, and institutional linkages between Gombe State University and institutions in Tunisia.
